Come and Sing – ‘Life isn’t [about] how to survive the storm, it’s about how to [sing] in the rain’ – with apologies to Taylor Swift.

As Storm Bert arrived in Southampton last Saturday, 23rd Nov. 2024, so too did over 30 singers, mostly from Hampshire but some from Bristol, Guildford and Blandford. Along with them came several trusty helpers, all braving the wind and the rain to show their support for the Beatrice Project.

Geoffrey Nobes led the day superbly and everyone was astounded by our young accompanist, Nathan Yam. One of the singers even commented that he and Geoff ‘must have been working together for a long time’: they actually met first on the morning of the Come and Sing: ‘Songs for the Season’!

Geoff’s relaxed approach, professionalism and skill were appreciated by everyone. All the music we needed was provided, including some original compositions by Geoff, Ian Schofield, who led us in singing his carol, and Jamie W Hall, to whom our admiration and thanks go. These were balanced by a mix of traditional Christmas music, too, which the ‘choir’ tackled enthusiastically, producing, at least to our wonderful refreshments ladies, a ‘beautiful sound’! Their serving of tea, coffee and vast quantities of homemade cakes, all provided by friends of the project, was appreciated by everyone.

All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day. Just over £1000 was raised, through registrations and donations, for the Beatrice Project, so we are delighted.  Our grateful thanks to everyone who came, helped, donated and generally encouraged. We appreciate you all.

If you missed the day, look out for our next ‘Come and Sing’ in 2025!
