Ten years of the Beatrice Project
Dear Friends and supporters of the Beatrice Project,
It is with great sadness, but also with a sense of satisfaction at a job well done, that I am writing to you on behalf of the Beatrice Project Trustees. After months of research, exploration and negotiation, seeking to resolve governance issues in Zimbabwe, we have come to the difficult decision that, as of this email, the Beatrice Project will close its work supporting the schoolgirls of rural Zimbabwe.
Since the work began, thousands of young women have been enabled to stay on at school to complete their education. Many have gone on to further training and are now in employment, making a difference to the well-being of their families and communities. This has all been because of your involvement in and support of the work and we are truly grateful to you all.
Over the last eight years, £322,200 has been given to support the work of the Beatrice Project and this has all been spent on the programme in Zimbabwe: none of the Beatrice Project staff has been salaried. We ask you, now, to cancel your regular giving. The trustees are seeking to identify other suitable charities, whose objectives are aligned with ours, to which funds remaining in Beatrice Project accounts can be donated.
Once again, thank you so much for the support you have given to me personally, to the whole Beatrice Project team and, most importantly, to the girls in Zimbabwe. Thousands of lives have been impacted and changed for good, and no-one knows where that may lead in the years to come.
With our best wishes,
Sue on behalf of the BP Trustees
